Yousual
A personal safety app for iPhone and Apple Watch
Role
Design and prototyping
Platform
iPhone and Apple Watch
Status
Implemented
A safety tool should help without becoming a tracker itself.
Yousual is designed for women who often travel home alone at night. It learns a person's ordinary days on the device and notices when something unusual happens inside a rule she wrote in her own words.
Instead of continuous location sharing, it sends a quiet check that looks like an everyday reminder. Her answer decides whether anything is shared at all.
Interaction model
A check that looks like an ordinary reminder
When an evening goes off her usual pattern, Yousual asks a question she chose, such as “Did you water the basil today?” “Yes” ends the check. “Not yet” quietly asks her chosen contact for help. If she cannot reply, the steps she set run one at a time.

The boundary
Privacy scales with urgency. Nothing is shared until her rule allows it.
Her contact sees only what she turned on, with a clear next step. Every share has a visible end in her History, and raw location and motion data are deleted after seven days.
Two evenings
Follow Claire through a quiet night and a night when she needs help
On one night, Claire stays out late at a film and answers “Yes”. On another, a detour triggers the same kind of check, she answers “Not yet”, and Mia is alerted with only what Claire allowed.

Two people
What Claire controls and what Mia sees
For Claire, History shows what was shared, with whom and when it ended. For Mia, an alert arrives with only the information Claire turned on and a clear next step.

What comes next
Yousual has been implemented. Its effectiveness has not yet been tested with users. The next phase is usability testing with women who travel home alone at night, alongside checks on notification reliability and how often unusual moments are flagged.
